Easter Spring Cake

So I decided to make a cake for Easter!! Before I begin though, I just want to say that I did not get this idea from anything or anyone. . . I do not do that whole pintrest thing and this was totally my own idea!!! Wahoo!!

I made a cake with a bird's nest on top!!!
For the cake I made a chocolate chip/recess pieces cake:

INGREDIENTS:
  • 2/3 cup Butter
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 3/4 cup White Sugar
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 cup Recess Pieces
DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two 9 inch round pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugars. Beat in the eggs.
  3. In another bowl, sift together the flours, baking powder, and salt. Add this alternately with the milk to the butter/sugar mixture. Stir in the vanilla. Add the chocolate chips and recess pieces to the batter.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pans, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until knife inserted in middle comes out clean.
You are free to use any frosting recipe you wish and just add green food coloring to it. Let the cakes cool completely before putting the frosting on. You can choose any kind of filling  you would like. . . I just put some frosting in the middle and than on the top.
To decorate you will need some colorful sprinkles, pretzel sticks, and pretzel m&ms.

I first sprinkled some of the sprinkles on top and than around the edge I placed the pretzels how I think a bird next should look like. I than placed some pretzel m&ms in the middle!!! ENJOY!!!
