Sound of Silence

We discussed hearing verses listening in my Foundations Capstone class today. I found the conversation to be very interesting.
To start off we read the talk by Elder Dallin H. Oaks (Quorum of the 12 Apostles). Here is a link so you could read it yourself:

We then discussed Matthew 16 in the New Testament. If you read the disciples/apostles were hearing what the Savior was saying, but they were not listening.

We then did a little exercise the song "Sounds of Silence"

We watched this video and listened to the words. It was interesting to find how most of us just got into the music. He then asked us a series of questions to see what we remembered from the song. After answering the questions, he played us another video (this time with the words).

Now think about the lyrics and think about what the difference between hearing and listening is.

We had a lot more discussion about this topic, but I loved the song that he played. Enjoy!
