New theme park policy

Theme parks, such as Disneyland and World, change ride line policies due to people who pretend to be disabled and abuse the system. “People who are truly disabled will find the new system to be difficult.
“Soon after the opening of the popular Cars Land in Disney California Adventure last year, Disney found that close to a quarter of all the visitors riding Radiator Springs Racers—5,000 out of 20,000 on average per day—were using a Guest Assistance Card, according to MiceChat.com, a website devoted to Disney theme-park news.”
Taking away the fast line for people with disabilities may seem to be a minor change, but many families will be affected by it. This change will change a lot of people’s plans for vacations. Many people with disabilities have bathroom, medicine, and eating, etc. schedules.
Part of the abuse of the system has come from wealthy families who hire disabled tour guides to pose as family members to enter the rides faster.
The new system will give the people with disabilities a return card for the ride. The problem with this is again the idea that most of these people are on certain schedules. The new system will begin October 9, 2013.
“There has to be some sort of middle ground,” said Don La Vette of Joliet, Ill., who has an 11-year-old son with autism and oral and motor dyspraxia. “Goodness gracious, you can’t hurt kids with disabilities because you have able-bodied people abusing the system or cheating. Really, is that what we want to do?”
