Why did I say 'finally'? Well, it was about a month after Glenn and I started dating that we felt like this was right, and we would want to spend eternity with each other. We planned not long after about when we would want to get married. It worked nicely in our schedule with me finishing up my college education and him being off-track.
After about two months of dating, we went and looked at rings and found one that we both really liked with the Diamond Guys. The guy gave Glenn the paper work for financing, but he needed some pushing to finally get that paper work done. . . reason #1 why it took so long until we got engaged. I do not know the other reasons why it took so long, but finally on the 16th of November he popped the question.
The proposal was a complete surprise--Glenn told me after the proposal how ever thing played out. . .so I guess the Sunday before the proposal, he talked to my dad. This explains a lot for me because for a while I was trying to call my parents Sunday and there line was busy. Turned out it was Glenn who was on the phone with them. Glenn said the ring came in on Wednesday and he made plans with the guy to pick it up Saturday morning.
Now here is how my Saturday (the 16th) played out. I had no idea he had talked to my dad, had the ring, and was going to propose to me that day. Glenn went and donated plasma in the morning and was running a little late to pick me up for a breakfast activity with our ward (he was running late because he was picking the ring up).
After we ate breakfast, we went to campus and did a few hours of homework. Glenn kept reminding me we needed to get back by 2:00, so he could start his laundry. I thought it was weird that Glenn was so determined to be home by this time to do his laundry. In my head I was thinking, 'since when does Glenn plan times?' We went back to my apartment, and he ran over to his to start his laundry. I started to make the pizza dough, so it could rise. I noticed that during the day, my roommates slowly started leaving the apartment one by one. I did not think much of it because people have different things going on; however, turns out they were leaving because they will be playing a part in the proposal. After the pizza was made and out of the oven, Glenn jumped up and quickly said, "my laundry is done; I have to go."
Thinking he would only be 5 minutes or so, one of my brothers called me. I was talking to Eric and Kiersten for a while on the phone when I noticed Glenn was trying to call me a few times. I ignored it because I figured he would be back soon, and I was getting hungry for the pizza. At the end of my conversation with my brother and sister-in-law, I told them I predicted Glenn would propose some time the following week. Little did I know that he would be proposing within the next half hour.
I got off the phone with my brother and noticed that Glenn had still not come back. I called him back and when he answered, he immediately told me to go get my boots and coat on. I did refuse at first. I told him it was too cold outside, and I did not like the snow on the ground. He tried to convince me and finally I went.
He stayed on the phone with me the entire time, and when I opened the door, I noticed a sticky note taped to the ground with an arrow on it. I was to follow the stick notes. I turned the corner to go down the stairs when I saw my roommate, Libby, with her phone filming me. At that moment, I knew the proposal was coming up. Libby was standing there with a stool and on the stool was a rose that said smell me. I took the rose and continued on my way following the sticky notes. It lead me to one of my really good friends, Thomas, he was standing there with his phone filming, and a stool with a bottle of Sparkling Cider and a broken glass. Turns out the wind blew the glass over before I go there, and so I ended up being really confused about the broken glass. I was suppose to drink some of the cider, but I felt super weird taking a wine looking bottle up to my mouth on the side of the street. I continued following the sticky notes. They lead me back to the apartment complex, and I ran into one of Glenn's roommates. He also had camera filming and a plate of my favorite chocolate--German with marzipan. I was suppose to eat it, but it was too much, so Mckay and I sat there and ate chocolate together. I continued following the stick notes. They lead me to my apartment door. I opened the door and was shocked to find all of my roommates, his roommates, and some close friends all gathered in the living room. I then caught notice of Glenn getting down on his knee right in front of me. He popped the question and obviously I said yes. He literally leaped off his knee and attacked me with a huge hug and kiss. It caught me of guard.
So that is the story.
We will be getting married either March 13th or the 15th. I just received a text from my mom saying the 14th--that we originally planned--might not work because the Temple can not do marriages until after 6 p.m. on Fridays. I will have to wait until Glenn gets off of work to talk to him about it, but we will probably know which day later tonight. We are planning on getting married in the San Antonio Temple!!! I am super excited.
I was told I am suppose to put my hand on his chest for the picture. We're engaged!!!! |
These are all the things I found at each little station. The glass pictured is different, since the one I found was broken. |
I said YES! |
Here is the ring! |
