The move went well, but the next day we were going to drive down to Texas for a family reunion with my family. We drove straight through and had no problems at all. Johnathan did very well on the trip down (Road trip hacks blog to come).
We made it to my parent's house a day and a half before the reunion. My oldest brother and his wife and kids were already there. We visited the train over by the zoo and had a fun ride.
The next day was Reunion day. Fort the next three days we stayed at a fun cabin out in Fredricksburg (only an hour from my parent's). My sister and her family and my other brother and his family met us all up there. The cabin was a very rustic place. The main house had a living room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. There was also an upstairs with beds, but since it is summer and it has a tin roof, we did not use the upstairs. My parents, Neil, and us stayed in the main house,. The barn looking building was called The Bunkhouse. It had enough beds and space + bathroom for my oldest brother's family. Then the silos made up two more bedrooms with sitting areas and a shared bathroom that my sister and my other brother's family stayed in. A pool sat in the middle of all the buildings and a grill/firepit sitting area. Such a fun place for us all. The kids had a lot of fun throwing out deer corn, so the deer would come. We even ventured down to the pond where thousands of frogs lived. The grown literally looked like it was shaking with how many frogs were living in that area.
The first day of the reunion was spent hanging out and swimming. The next day we went to main street in Fredricksburg. We have some favorite stores that are a must to visit every time we go to Texas. The afternoon was spent swimming and other activities around the cabin.
The next day we ventured out to The Sauer Beckmann Living History Farm. We went into the barn and Johnathan lit up when we put him on a saddle. I think he had a memory of riding a horse in Montana.
We then ended the night with a Family Talent Show. It was entertaining, interesting, and fun at the same time.
The last morning we took family pictures and said our goodbyes until next time. It was such a fun memory building time spent.
But wait!!!! Our adventure is not over. That is right. We were planning on going back to my parent's house for a few more days (so Glenn can look at some engineering companies). Blake's family also went to my parent's house and were going to drive back to Ohio the next day.
Our troubles started on Sunday. Our check light turned on. We were planning on heading back to Rexburg on Tuesday, so Monday we took it to a mechanic to get it fixed. Then Tuesday we got on the road back to Rexburg. Glenn caught the stomach bug that went around at Family Reunion, so it was not doing the best. We were driving straight through again and Johnathan did not sleep well during the night in his car seat at all. Glenn was driving and at about 1:00 in the morning we were at a gas station. I realized my wedding ring was missing. We believed it to still be in the car and tried to see if we could find it. No luck. Around 9 in the morning we were somewhere in Wyoming about 5 hours from Rexburg. I was driving and Glenn all of a sudden tells me to pull over right now. One of our tires completely ripped to shreds. We knew that we were needing to get new tires soon, but we were hopping to at least get back home before then. We put our spare on and a police officer pulled over and told us that Rock Springs is about 20 minutes from us and has lots of tire shops.
We had to go to three different shops until we found a place who had our exact tire (used). We finally got back on the road. We made it home finally made it to Rexburg at about 4 p.m. We stopped at Walmart to get some basic groceries and came home.
Johnathan was so exhausted that he crashed on the couch. We let him sleep for an hour and then gave him a bath. He was then out for the night.
Thursday we went to Idaho Falls and bought new tires from Sam's Club. Finally, today we are not going in the car at all. It is nice to just relax.
P.S. Glenn searched the car, and we found my ring!
