Recently, on Saturday May 20th, Glenn, myself, and Johnathan got in a terrible car wreck. To just play out our day some let me give you a little inside peak:
We were planning on going swimming at the pool for our town homes, but the weather was rainy and not looking the best. So, we decided we would head into San Antonio to go to Ross and Smoothie King (I had a gift card). After breakfast we ran over to HEB to get some groceries. I quickly put them away while Glenn and Johnathan waited in the car. We then needed to get some gas before heading into San Antonio. We fill up and start on our way. There was a white truck just poking along, so Glenn passed him before the lanes merged into one. We were almost to where the on ramp to the Highway was, when a car in the opposing (opposite flow of traffic) lane lost control and tried to correct herself, but ended up flying (swerving) right into our lane of traffic. All I remember is seeing this car and then having an air bag in front of me. Glenn was in the drivers seat, and I briefly remember him asking if I was all right. The first thing that even crossed my mind was 'MY BABY'. Glenn thought I was referring to the one in my tummy and tried to tell me it was OK as I was pushing to get my door to open. As much as I look forward to meeting the baby in my tummy, I was referring to Johnathan in this case. He was my number one concern. Johnathan was in the back seat crying and I immediately went to unbuckle him and make sure he was fine. Glenn then realized which baby I was referring too and jumped out of the car too.
So yes, bad things happen if you look at this situation. Any though our car was smashed and that is the only car we own, we were more grateful that nobody was hurt. It turned into what most people would view bad to being eternally grateful to God, and the life he has truly given us.
Glenn and I were saving up for a second car because we would not be able to get two car seats in our little car. We were not planning on buying the second car until October when we knew we would be able to pay for a car in full. Instead of getting frustrated and mad, we looked fully into our money situation and if buying a car in full would be doable for us at this time. Between the money we have saved up for a second car so far and the money we have saved up in our emergency fund, we can easily buy a car in full. It is something we both don't want to go into debt for and luckily we have what we need to buy a car now. We may be only having one car (once we buy one) for the next long while because of this crash, but it is something we know and easily can live with.
Bad things happen, but we need to only trust in God. He knows the full picture, and he sees it before we do. We may never really know why this had to happen, but God knew we at least at the means to work through it. Glenn and I have had some 'bad' things happen in the 3 years we have been married, but we have always seen a blessing come soon after.
Let us go about our attitude like Gordon B Hinckley (former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day)
"Thank the Lord for this blessing; now let's continue on in another car."
